Subject: picket report, Sept. 26, 1996, Mesa Arizona
From: cultxpt@primenet.com
weather; nice - # of picketers: 2 - # of flyers handed out: 4 - overall: quiet - time: 10am - 11:15am
My imaginary friend Skippy and I picketed today. Skippy had a new sandwichboard sign - 2 foamboard signs with should harnesses. He said it was very comfortable but a little sweaty where the board rested on his back and chest. One side had WWW.XENU.NET in 6'' letters, and heck I already forgot the other side, on green flourescent paper with black lettering. It was a VERY good sign for here where mostly traffic sees us. His letters were twice as big as our normal signs.
I handed out a record 4 flyers! today. There is very little foot traffic here so I was proud of myself. There were about 6 cars in the lot. No one came or left while we were there. Ginny Leason came out for a smoke, but that was about it.

Subject: 9/26/98 San Jose Picket Report...
From: jwissick@best.com (Jim Wissick)
Not too much to report... new handler.. he is quite the condescending ass hole. He made a comment along the lines of being able to put a bullet in me if he wanted to.
I was there from 12:30 till 2:00... Left as rain was starting.... there were a lot of cars there when I arrived, but they began to leave when I brought out my sign...
The anger in this guys voice and his words again leads me to believe we are doing serious damage to them and that violence by the cult may be comeing soon.
No counter picket today... prolly did not want to get wet as we are getting some rain here....

Subject: Picket Report: Saturday, September 26, 1998
From: mirele@newsguy.com (Deana Marie Holmes)
Frankly, it was a boring picket. I was out there from 11:20 to 12:20.
I got absolutely no response from the bOrg until the very end, when a woman named Sandra (along with a guy) came out and asked me my name as they were passing by. I told her I didn't want to give my name out as they didn't usually give their names out. She gave me her name, and I said, with just a trace of snottiness in my voice: "Deana."
That was it. Which doesn't explain why my house got leafleted today. You're pretty proud of yourself, aren't you, Scientology? Some religion...

Subject: Picket Report: Sunday, September 27, 1998
From: mirele@newsguy.com (Deana Marie Holmes)
Went out for about 15 minutes after I discovered the leaflet on my doorstep.
Stayed until some fat guy with a moustache and a red t-shirt came out into the lobby. I showed him the evil leaflet through the window, and he started laughing. No remorse, nothing.
How can you Scientologists stand to look at yourselves in the mirror in the morning, when you do crap like that?
And, pray tell, what is NOT truthful about my sign? That Lisa McPherson spent the last 17 days in the care of $cn at the Fort Harrison is true. That you spend quite a bit of money on the Bridge to Nowhere is also true. Why do you people hate me for telling the truth?

Subject: picket report, Palo Alto, 9/28/98
From: humanrights@racerrecords.com (Kristi Wachter)
Date: Mon, 28 Sep 1998 23:12:44 -0700
Message-ID: <humanrights-2809982312440001@racer.vip.best.com>
Suppressives: Keith, me
Stats: 11 "Is $cn Breaking the Law?" fliers plus some mini-fliers
Traffic, foot and car: pretty light
Time: about 5:45 - 6:45
Keith and I did about 45 minutes (maybe an hour) a piece in Palo Alto tonight.
I had planned to be there at 5:45, but as it turned out, my client's project was just too engrossing, so I got there closer to 6. (As I said to Keith, "If I weren't so darn suppressive, I could probably be on time!") Keith left at around 6:30, and I hung around until 6:45, when I handed out the last of my measly 11 fliers and spent about five minutes talking with a gentleman who was interested in the criminal allegations. (There I go again, picketing by myself.)
I took a couple of strolls over to El Camino Real, where the car traffic is much heavier. There's an extremely scary mannekin of Colonel Sanders at the Kentucky Fried Chicken on the corner.
A young lady came downstairs from the org a couple of times to check up on us - she kind of peeked at us and then went back upstairs. It was the lady from my previous picket who I thought might have been doing some sort of DPF program.
Keith and I got lots of acks and waves.
There were no signs of a revenge picket chez moi. None of the neighbors mentioned anything, and there were no fliers or anything.
Somewhere in the mad rush of spontaneous pickets this week, I appear to have overlooked an anniversary. If all of my separate locations (i.e. 2 locations in one day & 5 locations in one day) count as separate pickets, I do believe I've just passed #30.

Subject: Picket Report: Tuesday, September 29, 1998
From: mirele@newsguy.com (Deana Marie Holmes)
After I got home from work, I checked my voice mail and found out that the cult had apparently littered their flyers up and down the street on Sunday. This was due to a phone call from a neighbor, who also said she found the flyer to be disgusting. No, she was NOT impressed with Scn's attempt to DA me.
So I went down to the org and put in a non-confront 15 minutes letting them know I was there, from 5:45 pm to 6 pm. Then I went home and had a little bit of a nice roast I'd had simmering in the crock pot all day.
Let me just add that this neighborhood leafleting is becoming a foot-bullet for Scientology, not only for the fact that the neighborhood reaction tends to be revulsion at the Scientologists. Something else will be happening shortly. :)

Subject: Los Angeles Picket Report - Oct. 5, 1985
Picket report for Oct. 5th, 1985. Posted for Frank Notaro.
"I went down to the Advanced Organization in Los Angleles to ask for a refund of monies paid for a level of auditing. My request was in writing.
"A security guard told me to get out or I would be arrested.
"'O.K. I will have to picket,' I said.
"The next day I picketed by myself in front of the entire Cedars of Lebanon ('Big Blue') Complex. "One sign said 'Ron is Xenu!'
"A Church of Scientology 'Security Guard' came from the front and grabbed my signs, while three or four others jumped me from behind and threw me to the pavement in the middle of the street, where they pinned me down and handcuffed me from behind. They then took me inside the building across from the Advanced Organization.
"On the way I managed to shout to a friend to call the police, as I was afraid. I was held captive for an hour or so until the police came and released me.
"The police officer told me I had every right to picket and escorted me to safety."

Subject: Erlich hearing, picket report, glass boarded up 9/30/98
From: hkhenson@netcom.com (Keith Henson)
A bunch of other things made me late, so I missed scientology's initial presentation (they had Milgram back, along with Leibermann and Hart, Helena Kobrin was back of the bar along with McShane and Cartwright) and come in with Carla Oakley doing a fine job on a number of points. One which stuck in my mind (because Judge Whyte ruled against me on it) was that the courts have held that you have to look at a larger picture than just a few pages which were copyrighted as a tiny unit of something larger, and that it has been held by the courts that sometimes fair use permits quoting the whole thing. Ah, the difference big money/big lawfirm makes!
There was considerable argument about deposing Mary Sue Hubbard. It looks possible that Judge Whyte may permit that. If so, it will have to be done fairly soon, because the pretrial conf was set for Dec. 18. (think I got that right)
The scns wanted a date after April, because Rosen is tied up in other cases till then. Dennis' lawyers wanted one as soon as they could get it. They argued that the order Dennis is under greatly inhibits his ability to speak out against the abuses of scientology. Judge Whyte got very hot at this accusation, saying that that was not his intention. Harold (didn't get last name) from MoFo patiently explained to Judge Whyte that while he was right in the legal sense, the line was uncertain to ordinary people and so they stayed well back of it in fear of the consequences from the federal courts.
After the hearing, the judge called all the lawyers into chambers and imposed a settlement conference on them. It was going to be under Judge Infante, till one of the scn lawyers remembered that Infante's last words were to the effect that he never wanted to see them again. So Judge Fogel got it. Judge Whyte seems to have put the scns on notice that they have potential problems because of their abuse of Dennis' civil rights when they got and then abused a civil search warrant they got from him--one which he later ruled was unconstitutional.
One of the people who was in the conference was concerned that Judge Whyte had lost weight since the last time he/she had seen the Judge and looks downright gaunt. (I was not close enough to tell.)
The transcript of this hearing might be well worth buying and posting to the net if someone wants to spring for around a hundred dollars.
After the hearing the platoon of MoFo lawyers went one way, Brent Stone, Dennis and I decided we would give the local org a picket so off we went (the San Jose org is a mile or two north of the courthouse). 1 pm to 1:30, 31 cars, relatively little activity, a few flyers given out, some pictures taken.
A new element: the window next to the door was boarded up. I don't know what to make of this, I am fairly sure none of the local critics would do this. That building is just covered with giant--and I would estimate very expensive glass panes. If someone wanted to break glass, I don't see why they would pick the smallest and hardest to get at window next to the door. But then I never could figure out vandals. Keith Henson

I'm ba-ack.
Kathy and I went out after dinner to get back in the picket line. By my estimation, the result of the Co$ second attempt to muzzle me has been three more pickets than usual this week... and I can promise many more, and many more new people joining in, as well. When will they figure it out?
There were about 12 cars in the lot. Towards the end of the picket, Ginny Leason arrived. She is aging noticeably. She stubbed out her cigarrette and stalked into the Org without coming over to chat. Slave to nicotine but master of MEST - yeah, right.
So Leslie Duhrman is out of the country on a religious pilgrimage? As the Church Lady would say: How conveeeenient!

Subject: Picket Report, September 30, 1998-From: mirele@newsguy.com (Deana Marie Holmes)
Approximately 30 minutes - Weather: wonderful
Unlike Tuesday, the bOrg managed to drag Phil out of mothballs (or from wherever they stash an OTVIII in between turns in front of the bOrg with a notorious suppressive person). He had his usual platitudinous signs. I told him that if the cult was going to leaflet my neighborhood, at least have the common courtesy to *sign* the flyers.
Otherwise it was fairly uneventful. We had a couple of walkups. One thought we both were crazy, and two kids were turned off when Phil told them that homosexuality was unacceptable. (See, here in Utah, it's still OK to express public homophobia :(. )
After about 25 minutes, the bOrg sent out two women armed with "Way to Happiness". I got the impression these ladies were going to step out into traffic and offer "WtH" to anyone who looked like they were looking at my sign. I didn't like this at all and told them (a) that this was a traffic hazard and (b) that I was leaving. The next time I picket, if they try this stunt, I'm going to do (c) call the cops. Yes, that's right. CALL THE COPS. When I picket, I get enough looks without making a scene, and I don't step out into the traffic flow. I am not going to be responsible for Scientologists getting hurt and causing traffic accidents because they can't seem to stop a Suppressive Person like myself. Scientology, don't you care about your "parishioners"?

Arived at 4:30pm with Keith. Put in about an hour or so. The org was back to looking like a ghost town.. very empty... maybe 15 cars when we left.
Lots of public support today. Many honks and waves and "thumbs-up".
At 7:00pm a picketer showed up at my home...he stayed until 7:25ish.. He was quite lame.. unable to carry a real conversation... I will have pics of him up in a day or so. Until next time.

This morning I put in a short picket at the Palo Alto org. Just as I was considering going up so they would know they had been picketed, a lone guy went in.
4:30 this afternoon Jim and I put in 35 minutes at the Winchester location. That one is on one of the busiest street corners in town, so there was plenty of exposure. The org does not open up till 7 pm, but some staffers came by just after 5:00, so they know they got picketed.
Up to 6:15 no counter picketers at my place. Keith Henson

Subject: Mesa, AZ Picket Report 10-02-98 - From: skippy@imaginaryfriend.org
I picketed for 2 full hours today from 4:20 to 6:20. Talked to a few people about why I was picketing, I really need to make up some good flyers. I did get quite a few honks and thumbs up again. It's amazing how many cars go down that street during that time. Nobody from the org ever came out to talk to me.
I've decided that I'm going to be completely civil and friendly if I do ever talk to them..I don't want them to think I'm some sort of monster. I'll make it perfectly clear that I'm against their church's management and their terrorist policies, not them personally and their choice of religion (no matter how bizarre it may be).
There were about 8 cars there when I arrived, 3 more showed up, and 5 left by the time I left. So at least they know I was there. I've been thinking about doing a mailing to the neighbourhood, but realized how expensive that would be. I would cost at least $32 in postage for just 100 houses..yikes. I don't know if it's really a good idea anyway.
Until next time.. Skippy

Subject: 10-03-98 Mesa, AZ Picket-HANDLER! - From: skippy@scientology.not
I made up a new sign this morning for my sandwich board..it says "Scientology Killed Lisa McPherson" and "www.xenu.net" at the very bottom.
I arrived at the org at about 10:20 and expected to see either Jeff or Bruce picketing, but nobody was there. Maybe Bruce picketed earlier, he does that sometimes.
There's a canal right next to the org, where people sometimes jog. A nicely dressed lady came walking along the canal and stopped to talk to me. I thought it was odd that I didn't see her coming until she was almost next to me. I figured she popped out of the back of the org to come and handle me.
She pretended that she was just a regular person interested in why I was picketing. I had decided earlier that if I was going to talk to these people I was going to try to be civil. I played along the whole time explaining the myriad of reasons I'm picketing. She would never really agree with anything I was saying. Usually when I talk to someone they'll say something like "Wow, really? That's terrible!" or something similar. She would just say, "Hmm." to anything I said.
She did try to find out who I was several times..she acted like she was interested in learning more and could she please have a business card so she could contact me. I declined, and told her it's my policy to never give out my name because of how Scientology treats their critics, and how they might picket my home. She then said, "well, if you don't have a business card, can you just give me your name and phone number?" Duh. Did you just hear what I said? I told her about how Scientology rented a room next to Nan just to keep an eye on her.
I probably talked to her for 15 minutes before she left. She never admitted to being a scientologist, and I never let her know that I thought she might be one.
I wanted to keep the conversation going long enough so I could give her as much "entheta" as possible. She acted like nothing I said was good enough a reason to picket a church. She just kept asking me about who I knew, what church I go to, what other picketers I knew, what in particular drew me out here today. I didn't give her any information that would hurt my anonymity.
It was pretty sad actually...I don't think a word I said sunk in. I would like to know who she was..I'll probably talk to Bruce and Jeff next time I see them. She was white, black hair, had a good tan, fairly thin and attractive. She was wearing a nice sleeveless gold blouse, and a pretty skirt. The only thing odd about her appearance was the super dark nail polish she was wearing. I think she might have been a smoker too.
When she left, she timed it so she could get back into the org without me noticing..but she didn't fool anyone, there's no place else she could have gone, the canal goes on for another 0.25 mile before she would have been able to exit anywhere but the org.
I think I'm going to just concentrate on my "Sign Tech" for now, and try to make some bigger more professional looking signs. My goal is not to annoy the scientologists so much as it is to inform and warn the general public. Until next time, Skippy

Kathy and I covered the shift arrival this morning :-).
We picketed from 8:45 to 9:30, during which time 7 cars arrived.
We got good responses from the traffic and I gave out two Xenu pamphlets to walkers. Now that the heat is leaving, there will be more pedestrians. And I will be able to wear my full head Xenu mask without steaming myself like a cabbage. It's going to be a fun Fall.

Me and Ellen did a short (45 min) picket in Copenhagen. Stirred up some scienos, who seemed to dislike me yelling "Demontration AGAINST Scientology - AGAINST! Read all about the crazy cult Scientologists and their secrets".
The funny thing about the public is that they refused to believe I was against scientology. I only got approx. 30 leaflets out.
Their reputation is bad in Sweden. But in Copenhagen, it seems like they have achieved a PR disaster. Regards, Christer Lindstrom

Subject: Picket report 3/10/98 San Jose-From: hkhenson@netcom.com (Keith Henson)
5:45-6:45. 17 cars in the lot. I skipped the usual Sat. morning picket to catch them off guard. I think they have been bring in raw meat at times they think I will not be there.
It started out as a really dead picket, no activity from them at all. Then about 6:10 "blueshirt", a 20 year staffer drove in and started an interesting conversation where he accused me of being a nazi bigot. He also said (LOL) that because of my picketing (which he wants to go away) they are doing better than any time in the last nine years.
Well, anyone who thinks he is infested with the spirits of murdered space aliens can believe anything I guess. If anyone wants to put a name on him his license is 2NCS396 (CA).
Shortly after that a guy drove in, parked and walked to the front, reading my sign very carefully. He came out after a while, drove across the street, parked, and walked back. I met him and gave him a flyer and pointed him to the net. One raw meat lost for sure. (Whatever they did had badly rattled him.)
About ten minutes later three tall (basket ball player tall) blacks in relatively nice car drove in. Two were women, but the third I could not determine gender. They read my sign (for variety I was carrying a Lisa sign) both sides *very* carefully--for such a long time that blueshirt and a woman came out and dragged them in. I mentioned it was a dangerous cult, and one of the women said they were going to keep an open mind. I expressed a hope that their minds did not fall out. I stayed longer than I intended waiting to see if they would come out, but no luck. If someone wants to check on how they are doing, their license is 3PAH302 (CA).
Today was a good one for picket stats; Copenhagen, London, Salt Lake City, Mesa, San Jose and (I think) San Francisco. Maybe more, it takes a while to write up a picket. Keith Henson
PS, the boarded up window next to the front door is fixed.

Subject: Picket Report: Saturday, October 3, 1998
From: mirele@newsguy.com (Deana Marie Holmes)
We had a major weather change this weekend, so it's a lot colder than it's been. There was snow in the mountains Saturday. But did that stop me from picketing? NO!
I went out from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. It was very overcast and there was the occasional droplet of rain, and the temperature was definitely in the 50s, but I held up and my sign held up.
There was one interesting occurrence about 10 minutes into the picket.
A young man walked around from the back of the org. He very ostentatiously went through the effort of clipping on a microphone and then threading it through his shirt. Then he wanted to talk to me. I was very suspicious of him. I asked him what his case level was, and I thought he was playing stupid. I gave him a Lisa flyer. Not more than 30 seconds later, a man in his 30s, blond but balding on top, came charging out and asked the young man something like, "Are you one of us?" He apparently said yes, and he was hustled back into the org, Lisa flyer in hand.
I didn't stay long enough to find out what happened to Matt, the sociology student at Salt Lake Community College, but now I want to know. What happened to Matt? The rest of the picket was pretty boring. I left at 2 p.m.

Subject: Picket Report: Salt Lake City, October 5, 1998
From: mirele@newsguy.com (Deana Marie Holmes)
I did a short (20 minute) picket of the SLC bOrg Monday.
The bOrg sent Phil out again today, and I gave him a few words about how revenge picketing was just plain stupid. He had his usual signs, platitudes from Way to Happiness.
A woman pulled up and parked, she wanted to know what was going on. I gave her a flyer and Phil a Way to Happiness. I doubt she's going to become a Scn. She told me briefly that the husband of a friend had gotten caught up in Scn and "it was really sick." Another guy turned onto Ramona St. and asked what was up...another flyer.
About that time, Marie, aka Cell Phone Woman, showed up. I noted (and took pictures of) the fact that she's now wandering around SLC with her out-tech picket signs. These are the ones that they use to picket my home.
Two boys delivering the Deseret News stopped by. Marie gave them a Way to Happiness. I was not happy about this, and I told the boys that Scientology was Not Christian. I pointed out number 11: "Do not harm a person of good will." I told the boys that this contradicted what Jesus said, which was to "love your enemies." Marie was NOT happy with me, but dammit, I'm not going to let you sit there and try to corrupt youth with your crap. The boys got flyers as well.
For me, probably the best moment of this very short picket was that one of my very dearest friends saw me picketing on the street and stopped by to say hello. He did a couple of turns with me, while the Scienos stood there with their signs.

Subject: Picket report Stockholm 6 Oct 98-From: Catarina@my-dejanews.com
Since Swedish critics have been going to Denmark lately to picket, it was about time to let the Swedish orgs know that they have not been entirely forgotten.
I got to the Stockholm org just after 18.00, and Ake was already in position. One staff member was watching outside, and I immediately recognized him as Ken - we both used to work in HCO once upon a time. He also joined as a teenager, but obviously never moved on... I said something like "Gee, you're still here?" and after a few moments he recognized me, too. Some OT8 lady had been out to say something to Ake before I arrived. Another OT, Kate who is in charge of the after-school center that belongs to the scientology school, was driving off with some kids in a car that had been parked right in front (no, we did not talk to the kids, I don't feel that would be appropriate). But as has been shown over and over, picketters seem to be immune to OT intention beams (now we can even do without the tin foil caps!).
We stayed outside of the org for a few minutes, but it's in such a lousy location to leaflet since there is very little pedestrian traffic, so we decided to move across the street, closer to the subway entrance and shops. Did not keep count of the number of leaflets. As always several supportive comments, some who did not want leaflets, but nobody really negative. Ken soon joined us with his polaroid camera, and I had to tell two women who had stopped to chat "you'd better move aside, or that scientologist will take your picture". They backed aside, but stayed to watch the spectacle and one of them said to me "I know what those scientologists are about, it's good what you are doing".
According to Ake, our handler Ken seemed cheerful compared to earlier pickets. Maybe he was just happy to meet a critic that scares him less than Ake, he even promised me that my picture would be in the next issue of "Impact" (I presume he meant to say the Swedish edition of "Freedom"), though I believe that honor is reserved for more illustrious critics. He also taunted our downstat leafleting tech, while scientologists shoves leaflets in people's hands with intention "getting thousands out". The traces of their latest leaflet job were clearly visible on the ground... It really is much more fun to give leaflets to people who *want* one :-)
One older lady stopped to tell me that she was proud that she had once saved a young girl from scientology. This girl (a relative, I presume) had been suffering from anorexia and after getting involved with scientology she had been going to Copenhagen, but the lady I talked to had heard about scientology, and managed to convince the girl to come back home and she was OK.
After 30 minutes we called it a day, as we had other suppressive business to attend to. Catarina

Skippy and I showed up about 4pm for a picket. Bruce came a bit later, then his wife not long after that. We picketed until about 5:45. It's amazing how much rush hour traffic there is at this time. I would suppose potentially 2,000 people saw our signs, especially Skippy's "WWW.XENU.NET" sign that can be read from about 100 yards away.
There were about 5 cars when we started, and maybe 6 people came while we were there. I saw Ginny Leason briefly, but not Leslie the Ice Woman.
We handed out I think 3 flyers. When I walked to the corner mart for a drink, I was shocked to see pieces of one of the flyers strewn about. It seemed sacrilegous to me. I picked up the pieces mournfully.
The weather was great. The company was great. A great way to spend an afternoon.

Subject: Picket Report , Salt Lake City, October 6, 1998
From: mirele@newsguy.com (Deana Marie Holmes)
I went out after the cult stiffed Kay Henry of Radio One (KWUN AM1230). They'd apparently called at 4 pm and canceled. I called in and basically reprised what had happened. Then I got in my car and as I was driving over to the bOrg, I heard a Scientologist call in. She said something about how they'd call "tomorrow" (Wednesday) and set up something else. The woman calling in said she couldn't understand why I was unhappy with the Way to Happiness.
Well, I think Scientology is hypocritical in putting out a book like WTH, especially since the actions of the founder were so diametrically opposed to the items in the book, as well as Scientology's current and past activities. I repeat, if you're going to use that book in your proselytising efforts, I'm going to have to trot out the LRH series of signs. I'm really sure you want your locals in the bOrg to see things like:
L. Ron Hubbard: Bigamist
L. Ron Hubbard: Unindicted Co-Conspirator
L. Ron Hubbard: Liar
and so on.
BTW, would you please pass on to the female on the radio: I *have* read Scientology books. I have Dianetics here and What is Scientology? I've also read more HCOBs and HCOPLs and sekrit scripchers and OSA Network Orders and...well, you get the drift. As for having never taken a course, I don't have to take poison to know it's bad for me. I would never give money to an organization that is going to send most of it uplines where it will be used for evil activities.
It was about 15 minutes. I noted that there's now a handwritten sign in the lobby inviting people upstairs for assistance.
I wandered back and did a couple of turns about the parking lot and saw younger balding blonde guy sitting in his car, eating his dinner from chez Burger King. So they know they were picketed.

Subject: Picket Report: Salt Lake City, October 7, 1998
From: mirele@newsguy.com (Deana Marie Holmes)
Went out from 5:40 pm to 6:10 pm today.
The sign saying that people need to come upstairs for assistance is still there. Has Scientology of Salt Lake City given up on the lobby?
I gave out one Lisa leaflet to a guy in a car who pulled into a parking space in front of the bOrg to talk to me.
Towards the end, a woman came out and began talking on the bOrg phone in the lobby at the desk. She didn't look too happy, but I don't think her conversation was about me.
